The thing about… Birthdays.

Hey guys Celestes here,

I’m sorry for the rather sparely posts this week, but we all had to do with real life stuff. That’s why I stumbled around the topic of birthdays and I began to find the concept of birthday parties and songs utterly disturbing. I think this quote describes it best :

If you think about it, the process of singing the birthday song and cutting the cake is extremely satanic. No, but seriously imagine it this way: a small gathering of people huddle around an object on fire, chanting ritualistically a repetitive song in unison until the fire is blown out and a knife is stabbed into the object.

We celebrated my sister’s birthday today and next week we’re gonna celebrate Blue’s sweet 18th.
While preparing the gifts for both of them I got to think about the ritual or convention of giving gifts to the person for being born. Isn’t that like totally ridiculous? I mean it’s not like they took any part in it ( you know what I mean.. ) or that it was their accomplishment. Rather it was the mother’s hard work, giving birth to her child, but then having to give a present to her child for letting her go through the pain of giving birth. That’s somewhat stupid right?

Technically they’re praised and gifted for being there and existing. Yeah.. thinking about it makes the whole process really awkward. Still birthday parties are a hell of fun & I’m looking forward to celebrating Blue’s birthday next week.

  1. why is it, that a certain person receives presents even though a day is being celebrated rather than a person?!
shouldn’t we just burn all the presents on an altar in order to honor that day? :)

    1. Haha , a very interesting thought! But yes ! The whole thing is just like the quote states somehow satanic, so why don’t we take it to the next level :D ? Let’s dance around the fire while again singing “a repetitive song in unison”? :D

  2. My favorite thing is to be out of town for my bday. Done it few times in a row. People around still manage to do a celebration but it’s rather small and spontaneous that way.

    1. I actually prefer it that way too. I’m actually not really the kind who likes to throw those BIG “GET DRUNK” parties in some club. I think it’s nice to get out of town once in a while ( even though Berlin is great and all ). It somehow feels special :)
