it has been quite a while due to exams and school-related stuff – sorry for that.
However, you all may have already noticed that I am a big skincare and beauty junkie (and by big I mean tremendously big).
During the last couple of years I started getting into skincare in particular and began to think more about my skin and upgrade my routine. Believe it or not, 2 years ago I never really cared about a facial cleanser, toner or a face mask! All my skin got was some water and a quick dip of moisturizer twice a day. I have been quite lucky so far as I was never really concerned with acne or serious breakouts in the past – my skin was never really a thing I extremely took care of. But I noticed at some point that my skin was neither really smooth, nor even and clear. As my interest in makeup grew, I knew that skin is the most important point for makeup and a crucial thing to really invest in – a smooth canvas doesn’t only look good but make you feel good as well.
Especially within the last year I’ve been experimenting a little bit and slowly built up a skincare routine for the morning, evening and – who would have thought it – weekend, where I usually have more time to concentrate on my skin and give it a good treatment.
I personally see skincare as a little pamper and simply enjoy the feeling of soft and supple skin when I wake up in the morning. How crazy this may sound – cleaning and moisturizing my skin is a real stress relief and relaxation for me, while many people just hate removing their makeup everyday.
I have something between a combination and normal skin, as it really depends on the weather and the amount or kind of makeup I’m wearing that day on how oily my T-zone gets. I usually pack a couple of blotting sheets, just in case I get too oily (God bless the person who invented these lifesavers!).
As my entire weekly routine would make this post way longer than it is anyway, I thought I’d just describe you my current weekend evening routine only, which is for me personally the most delightful. I think I’ve optimized it within the last 2 weeks, as I was able to get my hands on British and American skincare on my recent trip to Ireland.
Firstly, I take off the makeup I’m wearing that day – in case I even wear any makeup at all. As I keep my makeup really basic and minimal (usually a small drop of light coverage foundation and a bit of powder or mineral powder foundation, blush, a quick tightline and – of course – some kind of lipstick, as I’m a lip product addict), there’s normally not much to take off, so this step is a pretty quick one. I just put a little bit of Bioderma onto a cotton pad and wipe it all across my face. Makeup removal done. As easy as that.
Now it gets to actually cleansing my face. Whereas I use facial cleansers and exfoliators during the week, I really like to massage my skin and clean it as gentle as possible. Boots Botanics Organic Hot Cloth Cleansing Balm is a wonderful solution for that – besides it being organic, it contains shea butter, jojoba oil and – most importantly – rose hip oil. The benefits of it make the whole experience much better and the usage of a hot cloth calms down your entire body.
When I have the time and remember starting my routine a little earlier in the evening, I tend to give my skin an extra treatment with a face mask. Depending on my current skin condition, I either mix my own mask of yogurt, honey and oats or use something like the Yes to Tomatoes Skin Clearing Facial Mask.
Above all, toner comes first. When it comes to a toner, I usually prefer face mists as they are much more convenient and quicker. I’ve been trying out The Body Shop Vitamin E Face Mist for a couple of months now and I must say I cannot go without it. The smell of rose water is an instant revitalizer (especially in the morning!).
Next up: Serum or facial oil. While I use a serum every other day during the week, I tend to grab a facial oil on the weekend, as it is extra moisturizing and nourishing. I’m currently using the Boots Botanics Organic Facial Oil and find that it works serious wonders on me! It contains rose hip oil as well and makes my skin very glowing and supple when I wake up. A small drop of that makes my skin happy.
Eye cream. Yes to Blueberries Eye Firming Treatment is the one I’m testing out at the moment, and so far it seems pretty nice.
I finish with a little bit of lipbalm, either Carmex or NUXE Rêve de Miel.
That’s it! I know, the amount of products I use is totally insane, but oh well – I like treating my skin and do see great results! And stay calm, during the week my routine isn’t by far as long as on weekends…Don’t start believing that you need that amount of products as well! When you are a real minimalist in skincare and it works for you, that’s totally fine!
Hope you like it!
