The Whispers

Hey guys! How are you? I’m in a middle of studying for my french exam and just thought: why not posting something? As always, my timing’s wonderful and yes, it is procrastination. Anyway, I am kinda back! Have you heard of the new upcoming series “The Whispers” yet? It’s supposed to be a sequel to my beloved, short-lived series “V – the Visitors”. The idea doesn’t sound so bad at first sight and even though the plot reminded me of the short story “Zero Hour” by Ray Bradbury –

“The series explores what happens when an alien race from another world begins a mysterious and quiet takeover of Earth by using the most unlikely and unsuspecting inhabitants on the planet—the children.” – wikipedia

  • and I’m rather a fan of Isaac Asimov, I kept being enthusiastic. Until I saw the actual trailer.

If you know the series V – the Visitors and you actually liked it, you are going to be disappointed. There is no action, just horror and thriller and screaming and kids. What a wonderful combination! All mystery, no direct confrontation, no technology, no sight into the alien’s civilization. Truth be told, I didn’t like the alien movies of the 50s – 80s for their effects – weird, I know right? – but for their original plots. At least the directors attempted to use metaphors and indirect links, to camouflage their intentions in a stylish and classic matter or to welcome/throw his audience to/in a completely alien and extraterrestrial world. (I prefer the latter by the way.) Directors of our time, however (or at least the majority), just seem to have one thing in their minds: money.

There’s simply money in aliens. Steven Spielberg is a great director, I’m not denying that. However, not every of his movies was as great as his reputation is. So we should probably not hope for too much. Of course you don’t have to believe the same as me. Au contraire! I would love to read your comments and thoughts on this topic. Furthermore I’m not quite sure yet whether I’m going to like the series or not, given that I haven’t been able to watch it yet. So stay tuned!
